Colours of Letter-Dotting in Early Qur'ānic Manuscripts and their Indications

أهداف البحث: يهدف البحث إلى بيان معاني النقط الموجود في المصاحف القديمة، على اختلاف أشكاله وألوانه، ومنها نقط أبي الأسود باللون الأحمر، وغرضه منه، ثم الزيادات التي دخلت عليه بألوان أخرى، دلالة على القراءات القرآنية المختلفة، وتصوير أمثلة لتلك الزيادات.

منهج الدراسة: تبع الباحث

1- المنهج التاريخي لفرز المصاحف التي تكون في حدود الدراسة،

2- ثم المنهج الاستقرائي لجمع النقط بالألوان المراد دراستها،

3- ثم تحليل تلك النتائج؛ بجمع النظائر،

4- ثم المنهج الوصفي لتعليل الظواهر المتنوعة في طريقة الضبط.

النتائج: أظهرت الدراسة أن المصاحف القديمة سارت على نقط أبي الأسود، ثم زادت عليه ألوانا أخرى، أخرجتها الحاجة إليها؛ كالإشارة إلى بعض القراءات، أو إلى أداء خاص في نطق بعض الكلمات.

أصالة البحث: تظهر قيمة البحث في أنه ربط الجانب المعرفي النظري في كتب الضبط بالجانب التطبيقي في المصاحف القديمة، وتَفَنُّنِ الكتَّاب في ذلك، وأوصى الباحث بدراسة الضبط والنقط في مصاحف مستقلة.

Purpose: The paper aims to highlight the indications of the dots found in the early Qur’?nic manuscripts, and their different shapes and colours, including the red-dottings of Ab? al-Aswad al-Du?al?, and some examples from it, and then the latter additions in different colours, to indicate Qur’a?nic readings, with illustrations of these additions.

Methodology: The researcher applied the: paleographic methodology to classify Qur’a?nic manuscripts within the scope of the study, then the inductive method to identify relevant colored letter-dotting and then analyzing the results by compiling the similarities, then the descriptive methodology to identify the various phenomena in the way of letter-dotting.

Findings: The paper showed that early Qur’a?nic manuscripts used the red-dotting of al-Du?al?, but also added according to need additional dotting colours, to show Qur’a?nic readings, or to stress a special consideration in pronouncing some words.

Originality: The added value of the paper is to connect the literature of vowel markings and letter-dotting with the practical implementation as revealed in early Qur’a?nic manuscripts.  The paper showed creative examples from manuscript scribes. The paper recommended manuscript-specific studies of letter-dotting and vowel markings.
