Self-Compassion, Mindfulness, Academic Buoyancy

The current research aimed to identify the level of academic buoyancy and its dimensions, explore relationships between academic buoyancy and its dimensions and both of self-compassion and mindfulness and their dimensions, and to identify relative contribution of the self-compassion and mindfulness in predicting academic buoyancy among a sample of King Saud University students.

The research sample consisted of (280) students. The researcher used the Academic Buoyancy Scale (by the researcher), the Self-Compassion Scale by (Neff, 2003a), the Mindfulness Scale by (Baer, et al., 2006).

The results of the research showed that there is a high level of academic buoyancy and its dimensions, there is a positive statistically significant correlation at (0,01) level between (self-kindness, common humanity, mindfulness) and the total score of self-compassion and academic buoyancy as a whole, there is a negative statistically significant correlation at (0,01) level between (self-judgment, isolation, over-identification) and the total score of academic buoyancy, there is a positive statistically significant correlation at (0,01) level between mindfulness (Observing, Description, Acting with awareness, Nonjudging, Nonreactivity) and the total score of academic buoyancy, and there is statistically significant effect of all self-compassion dimensions and all mindfulness dimensions on total score of academic buoyancy among university students. The researcher explained the results according to the theoretical heritage and previous studies and put forward recommendations and research proposals.
