Abstract
This research aimed to determine the extent to which the requirements for a supportive classroom environment for science learning are available in public schools in the Asir region, based on the Singaporean model. This was achieved by identifying these requirements and exploring differences in their availability across different educational stages (primary versus intermediate). A descriptive survey methodology was employed. The research sample consisted of 32 science teachers: 17 primary school teachers and 15 intermediate school teachers, selected randomly. Through a literature review and analysis, the research identified 29 indicators of the requirements for a supportive classroom environment, distributed across seven axes: spatial flexibility and physical environment quality; e-learning and the use of digital technology in the classroom; classroom practices that support deep learning; assessment for learning; classroom climate in light of values and competencies; inclusivity, equity, and accessibility; and time management and lesson flow. Based on this list, a classroom observation checklist was developed and refined in the form of a four-point Likert scale to assess the availability of classroom environment requirements that support learning, according to the Singaporean model, in schools in the Asir region. This checklist was administered to the research sample during field visits. Statistical analysis employed means, standard deviations, percentages, and independent samples t-tests. The results revealed that the availability of classroom environment requirements that support learning, according to the Singaporean model, in Asir region schools was at a "limited availability" level, with a mean of 2.21 and a percentage of 55.33%. Availability levels varied across the seven requirements, ranging from "available" to "limited availability" to "not available." The results also indicated that the primary stage generally exhibits more supportive classroom practices for learning than the intermediate stage, while assessment practices for learning present common challenges across both stages. The researcher recommends strengthening the physical, technical, and inclusive aspects and assessment practices for learning in the classroom environment, and training teachers on how to build a classroom environment that stimulates participation and creativity, with a focus on low-implementation classroom practices (blended learning, differentiated instruction, assessment for learning).
