Abstract
The study aimed to identify the level of academic leaders’ practice of ambidextrous leadership at King Saud University, as well as the level of productive organizational energy among faculty members, and to examine the relationship between them. Also, it sought to investigate differences in the responses of the study sample according to selected demographic variables. To achieve these objectives, the study employed a descriptive correlational design and administered a questionnaire to a sample of 483 faculty members. The results revealed that the level of ambidextrous leadership practice was high (M = 3.88, SD = 0.97), characterized by a balance between open behaviors that support communication and creativity, and closed behaviors that ensure discipline and efficiency. Findings further indicated no statistically significant differences in ambidextrous leadership attributable to gender or years of experience, while significant differences were found in favor of faculty members reporting to leaders within their colleges. With regard to productive organizational energy, the results showed a high level overall (M = 3.95, SD = 0.98), with emotional and cognitive energy dimensions scoring very high, compared to a moderate level of physical energy. Additionally, no significant differences were found based on gender or the workplace of the academic leader, whereas differences appeared in favor of faculty members with less than ten years of experience. Pearson’s correlation analysis demonstrated a positive and statistically significant relationship (r = 0.617, ? ? 0.05) between ambidextrous leadership and productive organizational energy, indicating that strengthening ambidextrous leadership behaviors contributes to higher levels of organizational energy among faculty members. In light of these findings, the study recommends continuing to adopt ambidextrous leadership as an effective administrative approach, while enhancing programs that support faculty members' physical energy through physical health initiatives, sports activities, and work-life balance programs. It also emphasizes activating participation in decision-making between leadership and faculty members, as well as integrating exemplary leadership practices into strategic development plans and quality standards to ensure a positive impact on academic and research performance.
