Abstract
This study aims to present a proposed model for speaking activities based on an AI chatbot (ChatGPT), exploring immediate feedback mechanisms and the experiences and perceptions of female learners of Arabic as a Second Language (ASL) regarding this model. Adopting an exploratory qualitative approach, the study was conducted with a purposive sample of female learners at a Saudi university. Data collection instruments involved the analysis of voice interaction logs and semi-structured interviews.
The findings revealed the chatbot's flexibility in responding to prompts and providing immediate feedback, which contributed to reducing language anxiety and increasing learners' self-confidence. Furthermore, the results showed a shift in conversation management as the learners led the conversation and successfully adapted it to serve their communicative needs.
The study also concluded that the proposed model represents a safe interactive environment that supports self-directed learning. The study recommends integrating chatbots as flexible language partners in ASL programs, emphasizing the importance of training learners on prompt formulation.
