Narrative Techniques and Aesthetics of Spinning Memories in the Very Short Story

The “Forgotten” collection by Shaima Al-Shammari as a case study 

 ملخص البحث:

يحاول هذا البحث الولوج إلى عوالم الوجع الإنساني في القصة القصيرة جدا، خلال مجموعة "منسية" للقاصة شيمة الشمري، ورصد أهم تقنيات السرد التي اتكأت عليها القاصة في تذكر قصصها، كما تهدف الدراسة إلى كشف الإيحاءات والإيماءات الخفية التي تختبئ خلف كلمات القاصة ومشاهدها التصويرية، التي تومئ إلى فكرها ومشاعرها تجاه مواقف معينة، وقد ارتكز البحث على مجموعة من التقنيات (عتبات النص - التكثيف والحذف - المفارقة - الرمز والتشخيص والتجسيد - التصوير المشهدي) وقد اعتمدت في هذه الدراسة على المنهج السيميائي؛ لأنه من أكثر المناهج النقدية التي تعين الناقد على فك شفرات النص، وتعطي له مجالا أرحب لتحليل النصوص وتأويل معناها.

أهم نتائج البحث:

-  اهتمت الكاتبة بهموم المرأة وصراعها مع الرجل واحتل ذلك مساحة كبيرة من هذه المجموعة القصصية.

-  توضّح قراءة العتبات أن غلاف المجموعة القصصية جاء تعبيراً عن حساسية موضوعات تلك القصص، إذ هي موضوعات شائكة ليس من السهل ولوجها فضلا عن الحديث عنها.

-  تميزت الومضات القصصية لهذه المجموعة بالإيجاز والاختصار والاتكاء على الإضمار والحذف من أجل تنشيط ذاكرة المتلقي واستحضار خياله ومخيلته.

-  تميز أسلوب الكاتبة باللغة البسيطة السهلة لتقيم جسرا بينها وبين المتلقي، وتصل إلى روحه وتمتعه، بدلا من أن تقف الكلمات الصعبة عند أذنه فتقلقه.

-  اعتمدت الكاتبة في أغلب قصصها على المنولوج أكثر من الديالوج، ولاءم ذلك فكرة المجموعة والاسترجاع الذاكراتي.

-  اعتمدت الكاتبة في هذه المجموعة القصصية على تقنية عين الكاميرا؛ لتصور لنا عبر قصصها مشاهدا متقطعة من حياة بطلتها (الأنثى) ليقرأها المتلقي وكأنه يراها.

Abstract

This research attempts to penetrate the worlds of human pain in the very short story, through the collection “Mannsiyyah” (Forgotten) by the storyteller Shaima Al-Shammari, and monitor the most important narrative techniques that the storyteller relied on in spinning her stories. The study also aims to reveal the hidden suggestions and gestures that hide behind the storyteller’s words and her pictorial scenes. Which refers to her thoughts and feelings regarding certain situations. The research was based on a set of techniques (text thresholds - condensation and deletion - paradox - symbol, diagnosis and embodiment - scenic photography). In this study, I relied on the semiotic approach; Because it is one of the most critical approaches that helps the critic to decode the text, and gives it a wider scope to analyze texts and interpret their meaning.

Most important findings:

-The writer paid attention to women’s concerns and their conflict with men, and this occupied a large space in this collection of stories.

-Reading the Thresholds makes it clear that the cover of the short story collection was an expression of the sensitivity of the topics of those stories, as they are thorny topics that are not easy to approach let alone talk about.

-The narrative flashes of this collection were characterized by brevity and reliance on connotation and deletion in order to stimulate the recipient’s memory and evoke his imagination.

-The writer's style is distinguished by simple, easy language to build a bridge between her and the recipient, and to reach his soul and please him, instead of making difficult words that worries him.

-In most of her stories, the writer relied on monologue rather than dialect, and this fit the idea of group and memory recall.

-In this collection of short stories, the author relied on the camera eye technique to depict for us, through her stories, intermittent scenes from the life of her (female) heroine so that the recipient can read them as if they were seeing them.
